1963 : Matthew Verta-Ray was born in Cario, Egypt
1965 : Moved to Princeton New Jersey
1966 : Moved to Northampton Massachussetts
1967 : Moves to St Lambert, Quebec, Canada

1973 : Matt discovers Istanbul with his brother and parents while father is on sabbatical leave in Turkey. He plays a Saz, his first stringed instrument.
1974 : The Verta-Ray family relocates to St. Lambert, Canada. Matt and his brother go to the Lower Canada College in Montreal where a young arts professor teaches Matt expressionist art. Matt plays his mother's guitar and takes takes lessons, playing rockabilly, blues and rock and roll.
In the 80's : Matt goes to Oberlin and graduates in Graphic Arts. Whilst at university he plays in some bands and meets John Cage.
1985 : Matt moves to New-York. He works for Rupert Smith who is in charge of printing Andy Warhol's serigraphs. Matt meets Billy Cote and Bob Bert at Smith's.
In the 90's : Matt and Billy record the first Madder Rose demos. The NYHed Studio is created. In the band Matt plays the bass. Madder Rose sign to Atlantic Records and release two full length albums: Bring It Down and Panic On. The band tours throughout the US and Europe.
- Matt meets Ron Ward, Ali Smith and record producer Paul Kolderie and Sean Slade. Birth of SpeedBall Baby under the beat lyrics of Ron and the Matt's angular jazzabilly with Ali on bass and Rick Kubic on drums.

- Matt meets Peter Aaron from the Chrome Cranks and Rockin' Clay Reed from the Subsonics. Aaron introduces Matt to Peter Kenis from PCP Records. He will release the first two SpeedBall Baby EPs.
- Matt begins producing and recording indie rock bands such as Subsonics, 20 Miles, Flamin' Sideburns, White Hassle, Railroad Jerk in his completely analogue NYHed studio.

1996 : Birth of Dylan Verta-Ray
- The first SpeedBall Baby LP : Cinema is released by MCA.
- Matt meets Mick Collins and Jon Spencer.

2000 : Second LP : Uptight! for In the Red Records
2001: Matt records, produces and writes for Andre Williams : Bait and switch. The record includes contributions from Lonnie Youngblood, Ronnie Spector and Robert Quine and the great Rudy Ray Moore (aka Dolemite).
- Matt and Ali write an album as The Oubliettes. The songs won't be out until 2012.
2002 : Third LP by SpeedBall Baby : The Blackout for In The Red Records.
2003 : The Matt's legendary Gretsch 6119 is stolen in Bosnia. Found on the Internet, she comes back to NYHed 3 years later.
2005 : Matt and Jon Spencer form Heavy Trash. Debut LP for Yep Roc Records. Backing band includes members of The Tremolo Beer Gut and Powersolo and The Sadies. They tour Worldwide.

2007 : Second Heavy Trash LP : Going way out with Heavy Trash. Partially recorded in the renowned Toe Rag Studio in London.
2009 : Third LP by Heavy Trash : Midnight Soul Serenade. Over the next two years, the band plays live all over the world.
2010-2011: Matt records and/or produces The Dirtbombs, the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Dave Baby Cortez, The Oblivians, Kid Congo Powers, Bloodshot Bill, The Strange Boys, Melvin Van Peebles.

2012-2016: Rocio becomes a permanent member of the NY Hed studio as a artistic director
